Wayne Chambless

Growing up on his family farm in rural Georgia, Wayne Chambless developed an interest in investing at a young age when his grandfather explained how he would hedge against the vicissitudes of the commodity markets by buying and selling futures contracts. He pursued this interest as an undergraduate at Yale and as a graduate student at The Wharton School. A chance encounter during a business school summer internship with famed short-seller Jim Chanos sparked Wayne’s interest in finding over-valued, faddish or fraudulent businesses. Throughout his career, Wayne has been at the forefront of some of the most significant short themes of the last decade including the U.S. financial crisis and for-profit education companies, for which he presented his findings before the U.S. Senate. Wayne spent five years under the tutelage of Chanos at Kynikos Associates before joining Trafelet & Company as Director of Research. In 2009 he co-founded the short-biased fund, Harrier Hawk Management and was later recruited to SAC Capital. In 2014, Wayne joined Highbridge Capital, where he is a Senior Portfolio Manager responsible for the Short-Focused Equity Strategy. At the 2015 Santangel’s Investor Forum, Wayne will speak about the art of short selling and share a recent idea.
